Publication advice on collaboration with academic partners in Israel

The Advisory Committee on Collaborations was asked by the Executive Board to prepare an advisory report on Tilburg University’s partnerships with universities in Israel in the context of the Gaza conflict. Based on these findings, the Advisory Committee concludes that Tilburg University, as a moral actor, cannot remain passive and must act. The Committee translates this moral judgment into the following perspective for action: the Advisory Committee advises Tilburg University to suspend, within the legal and administrative frameworks, the collaborative activities under investigation.

This document was written out of a profound sense of responsibility and commitment to addressing the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis in Gaza. I, Lee Mordechai, a historian working at an Israeli university and an Israeli citizen, wrote it by drawing on my professional expertise and moral obligation to examine and document the unfolding events. Based on my experience conducting rigorous research and critical analysis, I have undertaken this work as both a citizen compelled to respond to the actions of his government and an academic determined to uphold human rights and ethical principles.

This is the executive summary of the report ‘You Feel Like You Are Subhuman’: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza (Index: MDE 15/8668/2024).

The report documents Israel’s actions during its offensive on the occupied Gaza Strip from 7 October 2023. It examines the killing of civilians, damage to and destruction of civilian infrastructure, forcible displacement, the obstruction or denial of life-saving goods and humanitarian aid, and the restriction of power supplies. It analyses Israel’s intent through this pattern of conduct and statements by Israeli decision-makers. It concludes that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
