Sur l’action à Oxford pour un campement de solidarité avec la Palestine

En tant que membres enseignants ou administratifs de l’université d’Oxford, nous soutenons fermement les membres de la communauté de l’université qui ont initié un campement à l’extérieur du Musée Pitt Rivers pour demander que l’université désinvestisse du génocide d’Israël à Gaza, ainsi que du régime actuel d’apartheid d’Israël et de ses colonies contre les Palestiniens en Cisjordanie et à Jérusalem-Est. Nos étudiants et étudiantes ont demandé que l’université appelle à un cessez-le-feu inconditionnel et immédiat, condamne la destruction de toutes les universités de Gaza sous le bombardement israélien des six derniers mois et engage des ressources concrètes pour soutenir l’éducation universitaire palestinienne et pour reconstruire les institutions d’enseignement supérieur de Gaza qui ont été détruites. Ces sentiments ont été aussi exprimés dans des déclarations que les membres de la communauté d’Oxford ont initiées ou signées, particulièrement dans la lettre du groupe Scholars for Palestine, qui a été lancée par des universitaires palestiniens au Royaume-Uni.

La situation actuelle à Gaza est catastrophique ; la Cour internationale de justice l’a caractérisée comme s’apparentant de manière plausible à un génocide. Nous considérons les demandes de nos étudiants comme complètement raisonnables, étant donné l’engagement de l’université d’Oxford pour un leadership mondial en éducation et la promotion d’opportunités éducatives internationalement. L’université a appelé à la libération des otages israéliens et à la fin de la violence en cours à Gaza. Nous appelons aussi à la libération des prisonniers palestiniens retenus sous détention administrative dans les prisons israéliennes, dont beaucoup ont été arrêtés alors qu’ils étaient des enfants. Nous demandons aussi à l’université même de prendre plusieurs autres mesures urgentes.

Actuellement, Oxford a la politique de ne pas investir dans des armements. Nous nous joignons à nos étudiants pour demander que l’université examine à nouveau sa politique d’investissement éthique pour restreindre explicitement tous les investissements — directs ou indirects — dans de l’armement, des armes ou d’autres instruments de guerre. À cette fin, nous demandons que l’université instruise la Service de gestion des dotations de l’université d’Oxford de mettre à notre disposition les détails de tout investissement dans des portefeuilles susceptibles d’inclure des investissements dans les armes ou dans d’autres instruments de guerre, tels que les avions de guerre, afin que nous puissions avoir une discussion ouverte sur cette question avec tous les faits en main.

Nous demandons aussi que le Vice-Chancelier condamne explicitement l’assassinat de plus d’une centaine de professeurs d’université et la destruction par Israël des institutions éducatives et des archives de Gaza. Finalement, nous demandons que l’université engage immédiatement des ressources (a) pour créer des opportunités afin que les universitaires palestiniens accèdent aux ressources documentaires et au soutien éducatif en ligne, de manière à ce qu’ils puissent continuer leur formation et (b) pour reconstruire les universités de Gaza.

Nous voyons le campement en solidarité avec Gaza, dans les mots du professeur David Ludden, comme un « projet d’éducation mondiale orienté vers le public ». Nous espérons que la direction de l’université traitera cette expression politique comme l’opportunité au dialogue qu’elle constitue.
