Déplacez cette conférence hors de Jérusalem !

Lettres à The Indépendent

Nous, psychothérapeutes, chercheurs et autres professionnels de la santé mentale, nous écrivons cette lettre pour exprimer notre consternation devant la décision de la Société pour la recherche en psychothérapie (SPR) de tenir sa prochaine conférence internationale à Jérusalem.

La politique d’Israël dans les Territoires occupés, notamment avec les démolitions de maisons, les restrictions aux déplacements et les emprisonnements sans procès, provoque l’insécurité, le désespoir, la vulnérabilité et l’humiliation. Elle crée des tensions à l’intérieur des familles et un traumatisme généralisé, et elle perturbe l’attachement de l’enfant. L’impact désastreux de l’occupation israélienne sur la santé psychologique des Palestiniens est bien documenté.

Cette conférence aurait lieu à quelques pas seulement de quartiers où les Palestiniens sont actuellement en train d’être dépossédés de leurs maisons pour faire place à des colonies israéliennes, une stratégie parmi toutes celles qui représentent une menace pour leur survie même à Jérusalem. La dénégation collective – ou l’indifférence – de la SPR est manifeste dans la promotion de la conférence qu’elle a publiée sur son site. Jérusalem y est décrite comme une « cité suspendue entre ciel et terre, Orient et Occident, passé et présent – des univers parallèles de cafetans flottants et de cafés branchés ».

Nous sommes choqués que, réagissant à des préoccupations déjà soulevées, les organisateurs estiment que cela suffit de promettre d’aider les chercheurs palestiniens en psychothérapie à venir participer à la conférence. Cela peut soulager peut-être la conscience de la SPR mais ne réduit en rien le poids du message politique qu’ils enverront en se réunissant dans cette cité assiégée.

Le nom de SPR devrait être synonyme d’honnêteté intellectuelle, d’indépendance, et de détermination courageuse pour faire face à la vérité. Donc, nous exigeons que la conférence soit déplacée dans un autre lieu, à l’exemple de l’Association mondiale pour la santé mentale infantile dans des circonstances similaires.
