A new programme of the Israeli army and Ministries of Defence and Education, to be implemented by Bar Ilan University, will provide 20 “outstanding fighters” yearly with full scholarship to receive a BA, MA and teaching certificate in only four years. For Israeli soldiers only, of course. The idea: to harness the “leadership and values” of the fighters for the benefit of Israel’s next generation.

A new programme entitled “Fighters to Teachers” was begun recently by the Israeli army and Ministries of Defence and Education. The programme, to be implemented by Bar Ilan University, will provide full scholarships to twenty “outstanding fighters” yearly to receive a BA, MA and teaching certificate in only four years.

“The idea is to enlist the special abilities of the fighters in everything concerning leadership and values in order to educate the next generation and to serve as a personal example,” said an official in the Ministry of Defence.

Hemda Mark from the MInistry of Defence told the Israeli paper nrg.co.il that “this is a singular and groundbreaking programme, at the end of which outstanding fighters will join the education system and provide values and education quality to children and young people in Israel.” This programme “possesses great importance, both from the perspectives of employment educational-society,” she added.
