Une réponse juive à la Déclaration de Février 2011 des Organisations Juives Sionistes concernant les campagnes BDS
Parce que le boycott académique, culturel et commercial, les désinvestissements et les sanctions d’Israël:
– ont été appelés par la société civile palestinienne en réponse à l’occupation et à la colonisation de leurs terres,
– sont une voie morale pour répondre de façon non-violente et pacifique à plus de soixante ans de colonialisme israélien et,
– placent justement la responsabilité au sein des institutions israéliennes (et de leurs alliés et partenaires) qui utilisent des liens commerciaux, culturels, universitaires pour blanchir la responsabilité d’Israël dans la continuation de ses crimes contre l’humanité,
Les organisations et individus soussignés demeurent fermes dans leur appui à la campagne Boycott, Désinvestissement et Sanctions (BDS) contre Israël jusqu’à ce qu’il reconnaisse les droits inaliénables des Palestiniens à l’autodétermination et respecte entièrement les préceptes du droit international.
BDS n’est pas antisémite. Nous rejetons l’idée selon laquelle l’appel BDS 2005 de la Palestine, et les campagnes BDS dans le monde entier qu’il a inspirées, sont enracinés dans un sentiment anti-juif. Au contraire, BDS est un mouvement antiraciste contre l’occupation quotidienne et brutale de la Palestine et contre la menace militaire que l’Etat d’Israël fait peser sur la région. Les allégations d’antisémitisme falsifient la vrai nature de la lutte palestinienne et sont un affront à, et une trahison de la longue histoire de la survie juive et de la résistance à la persécution.
BDS n’est pas anti-démocratique. Nous rejetons également l’affirmation selon laquelle le boycott culturel et académique d’Israël défie le principe démocratique de la liberté d’expression. La recherche-développement dans les institutions universitaires joue un rôle central dans la conception et la défense militaire d’Israël et dans l’organisation des services secrets. Les institutions culturelles perpétuent la tromperie sur la démocratie israélienne. Défendre la liberté d’expression pour ceux qui ne respectent pas la justice tout en diabolisant ceux qui luttent pour la justice est un mauvais service rendu à une démocratie véritable.
Par le boycott, le désinvestissement et les sanctions, la société civile affirme notre engagement à ne pas contribuer financièrement à l’Etat israélien qui est responsable d’actes atroces de mépris pour la vie humaine et le bien-être. Les attaques contre les campagnes BDS ne nous empêcheront pas de prendre cette position contre l’impunité d’Israël. Pour les organisations juives signataires de cette lettre, l’auto-détermination pour les Juifs comprend le droit de participer au mouvement pour la justice en Palestine et à vivre ensemble dans le monde avec nos concitoyens dans la paix, la liberté et l’égalité. Il n’inclut pas la domination et la colonisation d’autres personnes ni le fait de vivre séparément des autres êtres humains dans un état qui privilégie les Juifs.
BDS, par une pression internationale, a été une stratégie clé pour mettre fin au système sud africain blanc d’apartheid. Dans la recherche de la justice, de la paix et de la liberté pour tous, nous nous exprimons en tant de Juifs qui s’engagent pour BDS et pour la libération de la Palestine.

Statement by Jewish Activists and Organizations active in BDS against Israel
A Jewish response to the February 2011 Statement of Jewish Zionist Organizations on Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS)
Because academic, cultural and commercial boycotts, divestments and sanctions of Israel:
– are being called for by Palestinian civil society in response to the occupation and colonization of their land,
– are a moral tool of non-violent, peaceful response to more than sixty years of Israeli colonialism, and,
– rightfully place accountability on Israeli institutions (and their allies and partners) that use business, cultural, and academic ties to white-wash Israel’s responsibility for continuing crimes against humanity,
The undersigned organizations and individuals stand firm in our support of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) initiatives against Israel until it meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law.
BDS is not antisemitic. We reject the notion that the 2005 BDS call from Palestine, and the BDS campaigns the world over which it has inspired, are rooted in anti-Jewish sentiment. On the contrary, BDS is an anti-racist movement against the daily, brutal occupation of Palestine and military threat to the region by the State of Israel. False claims of antisemitism distort the true nature of the Palestinian struggle and are an affront to, and betrayal of, the long history of Jewish survival and resistance to persecution.
BDS is not anti-democratic. We also reject the assertion that the cultural and academic boycotts of Israel defy the democratic principle of free speech. Research and development in academic institutions play a central role in designing and defending Israel’s military and intelligence machinery. Cultural institutions perpetuate the deception of Israeli democracy. To defend freedom of speech for those who disregard justice while demonizing those who struggle for justice is a great disservice to genuine democracy.
Through boycott, divestment and sanctions, civil society asserts our commitment to not contribute to the Israeli state, which is responsible for atrocious acts of disregard for human life and well being. Attacks against BDS campaigns will not prevent us from taking this stance against Israeli impunity. For the Jewish organizations signed onto this letter, self-determination for Jews includes the right to participate in the movement for justice in Palestine and to live in the world with our fellow citizens in peace, freedom, and equity. It does not include the domination and colonization of other people or living separate from our fellow human beings in a state that privileges Jews.
BDS was a key strategy in ending the white South African system of apartheid by applying international pressure. In pursuit of justice, peace and freedom for all, we speak out as Jews committed to BDS and Palestinian liberation.
