BRISMES’ letter Regarding the Free University of Berlin’s Cancellation of the Lectures by Francesca Albanese and Prof. Eyal Weizman

The British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES) strongly condemns the Free University of Berlin’s cancellation of lectures by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and Prof. Eyal Weizman, highlighting it as an act of political censorship and a violation of academic freedom. BRISMES criticizes the misuse of the IHRA definition of antisemitism to silence criticism of Israel and calls for a public apology, a reaffirmation of academic freedom, and the rejection of the IHRA definition. The letter underscores the need to protect open discourse and resist political interference in universities.

STATEMENT CONCERNING THE DEFAMATION AND INTIMIDATION CAMPAIGN TARGETING THE ENS-PSL PALESTINE SEMINAR

Our February 10th session, entitled “Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism” resulted in us being defamed on social media and being intimidated before and during the session. These are particularly insulting and serious attacks that target not only our seminar and its guests but also the Ecole Normale Supérieure and its students.

Dr. Abu Safiya Reports Torture and Severe Abuses in Israeli Custody; Al Mezan Calls for His Immediate Release

Around 3 p.m. today, Al Mezan’s lawyer visited Dr. Abu Safiya in Ofer Prison, located in the unlawfully occupied West Bank. During the visit, Dr. Abu Safiya detailed the various forms of torture and abuse to which he has been subjected both during his unlawful arrest and throughout his arbitrary detention by Israeli forces and authorities.
