The Chief Scientist of Québec, Dr. Rémi Quirion, recently issued a second call to Québec universities asking their support in promoting research collaborations between Québec and Palestine. The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) signed an agreement last year to promote collaboration in scientific research with the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology, with the intent to set up a 4-year program to host short-term scientific missions of 3 to 6 months in Québec universities for researchers coming from Palestinian universities.

These scientific missions cover all sectors of research, from health to natural sciences and engineering to social sciences, the humanities and the arts. Specifically, this mobility program provides financial assistance (round-trip transportation and monthly allowances) to researchers in the West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza. The missions are expected to start by April 2019.

The selection process is two-fold: Québec universities first submit their list of faculty interested in welcoming researchers from Palestine to FRQ, which will then communicate with the Palestine Academy in order to allow researchers of both countries to get in touch and plan their missions over the next few months.

If you wish to have your name included in our institutional list, please contact me by email (dominique.michaud[at]concordia.ca) by Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Please also indicate what would be the main topic of cooperation with Palestinian colleagues.
