Israeli security forces and Palestinian armed groups must make every effort to protect the lives of civilians in today’s outbreak of fighting in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, said Amnesty International amid a mounting civilian death toll.

Just one day after the start of its 2023-2024 academic year, Israeli occupation forces stormed Birzeit University campus in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 24, 2023 in another targeted attack against Palestinian educational institutions andspecifically Birzeit University. During the raid, they arrested several students including the elected Student Council President, violently assaulted the university’s guards, andvandalized the Student Council’s office.
An Israeli court extended the detention by 11 days of Palestinian-Italian citizen Khaled El Qiaisi on Thursday, September 21. El Qaisi was detained on August 31 at the Allenby Bridge crossing on his way back to Italy with his family.
