AURDIP views with great concern the threats that Israeli Minister of Intelligence Yisrael Katz has pronounced against supporters of the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions). This is the first time, to our knowledge, that in an ostensibly democratic country, a member of the government speaks openly about physically eliminating the activists of a non-violent protest movement. Such threats are self-fulfilling; if the state doesn’t carry them out, a fanatic will; remember what happened to Rabin. AURDIP holds the Israeli government responsible for the lives of Palestinian human rights activists, particularly the leaders of the BDS movement. We are at this moment joining with our sister organizations, in France and in Europe, to prevail upon the Israeli government to respect their rights and their lives. Let the Israeli government understand that we hold it responsible for these lives, as we do our own governments, if they do not take up their defense immediately.
