In the early morning hours of Sunday 2 July 2017, armed Israeli occupation soldiers raided the home of Palestinian parliamentarian Khalida Jarrar, a prominent leftist leader, feminist, and human rights advocate, arresting her and confiscating her belongings. At the same time, armed occupation forces raided the family home of Khitam Saafin, president of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees and prominent struggler for the liberation of Palestinian women and the Palestinian people. We demand their immediate release.
The petition
We demand the immediate release of Khalida Jarrar and Khitam Saafin, internationally-renowned Palestinian feminist leaders and strugglers for justice and freedom. Khalida Jarrar, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and Khitam Saafin, President of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees, were seized in their family homes in arrest raids on 2 July 2017.
We see these arrests as an attempt to suppress the movement of Palestinian women and the Palestinian people for their freedom. They are unjust and illegitimate arrests intended to suppress a popular movement for freedom, and we demand the immediate release of these prominent Palestinian women’s movement leaders.
